LITCHFIELD — Blood left by the thief who stole the cash register from Petraroia Deli on West Street last summer was the key that led police to a Waterbury man arrested on charges of burglary and larceny.
A DNA analysis of a blood sample allegedly linked the crime to Javon Gaymon, 34, who was ordered held on a $10,000 bond following his arraignment Tuesday in Torrington Superior Court.
Coins and paperwork from the register were found strewn about Richards Road in Kent, where they were picked up by Kent public works employee Michael Sivick and turned over to state police.
The DNA sample was taken from blood that had been smeared from wounds likely suffered when the store’s front door was smashed.
It matched Gaymon, who has a criminal history and was incarcerated on unrelated charges when police obtained a sample swab from him for testing purposes.
